Why did my Meta ads stop delivering?

·5 min read·Meta Ads

When a Meta campaign that was running suddenly spends nothing, check money first: a prepaid balance at zero, a failed card, or an account spending limit that has been reached will stop every campaign in the account while each one still shows as Active; after that, check for rejected ads, an end date or lifetime budget that has run out, and an audience or cost control too tight to deliver.

It goes like this. A campaign was bringing in leads last week. Today the spend column says ₹0, the leads have stopped, and the status still says Active. Nothing was edited. Nobody switched anything off.

The status is the trap. Active describes the switch, not whether Meta can actually spend. A campaign can be switched on and still have no way to pay for a single impression, and Ads Manager will show it on the same row, in the same colour, as one that is running fine.

1. Money: the most common cause, and the least visible

Three money problems stop delivery, and all three live in Billing and payments, not on the campaign:

  • A prepaid balance at zero. Prepaid accounts, common in India, spend only what was added in advance. When the balance runs out, every campaign stops at once.
  • A failed payment. On an account billed to a card, a declined charge can put the account on hold until the amount owed is paid.
  • An account spending limit reached. This is a lifetime cap on the whole account, separate from campaign budgets, and it does not reset each month. Once total spend reaches it, everything stops until someone raises, removes or resets it. Meta also sets a daily spending limit on some newer accounts, which can cap delivery the same way.

The warning for all three goes to whoever owns the billing. In an agency that is often the client, not the person running the ads, so the first sign the agency sees is a week of empty numbers.

2. The ads were rejected

Meta reviews every new or edited ad, and can review a running one again. An ad set whose ads are all rejected has nothing to show, so it stops. The Delivery column says Rejected or With issues on the ad, and the reason is in the ad’s review details. One rejected ad in a set that still has others approved does not stop delivery; it only narrows it.

Property, loans, jobs and health ads are rejected more often than most, frequently over wording. We have written about the creative advice that gets property ads taken down.

3. Something reached its end

An ad set with an end date stops on that date. One with a lifetime budget stops when the budget is spent, even if the end date is weeks away. Both are easy to set at launch and forget, especially on a campaign copied from an old one.

4. The account itself is restricted

Meta can restrict or disable an ad account for policy reasons or unpaid bills. Nothing in the account delivers until it is resolved, and the notice appears in Account Quality, not on any campaign. This is rarer than the first three, but it explains the case where the money is fine and nothing runs anyway.

5. Running, but barely: the audience or the cost control

Not every stop is total. A campaign spending a few rupees a day has usually been squeezed. A very small audience, say one pin code and a narrow age range, runs out of people to show the ad to. A cost cap or bid cap set below what results really cost tells Meta not to spend unless it can buy them that cheaply, and it obeys. Loosen one thing at a time, so you know which one it was.

How to catch it in a day, not a week

None of these causes is hard to fix. What costs money is the time nobody notices. For a prepaid account, the useful number is not the balance; it is the balance divided by the daily budget, which is how many days are left. Two days left is a message to the client today, not an apology next week.

And any campaign that is switched on and spent nothing in seven days deserves a look the same morning, whatever else the account is doing. We go through the full list of blockers in Active but not delivering.

Admetriq watches for exactly this across every client account — delivery drifting outside the brief, one placement quietly taking the budget, a cost per lead that has fallen for the wrong reason.
